Oh the beautiful fruitful land of our freshly woken minds.
How many people do you know immediately grab their phones when they wake up? Eyes open. Blink blink blink. Wham! Their hand reaches for the phone. I’ve done it so many times.
There’s something wonderful that happens every morning. We start a brand new day. Our bodies have rested. Our mind has cleared out all the junk. We are a blank canvas for a few seconds before we start thinking again.
Don’t just grab your phone and start pumping other peoples ideas into your head.
A while back I learned the idea that you should “create before you consume”. It’s a concept that before you start consume what other people have made, create something of your own.
Maybe that’s journaling. Maybe it’s painting. Maybe it’s scribbling work ideas on a sticky note.
It gives you a chance to release your thoughts. All of that yummy stuff that your sleeping mind had going on. All of the thoughts that were like gems underneath all of the churning thoughts that happened throughout your day. Now that you’re in the calm water of a fresh mind, those brilliant nuggets are easy to get to.
