The New To-Do List

Friday is my “weekend”. Tanya’s parents take both boys and I have the day all to myself. And yes, I do a happy dance as soon as I close the door when they leave. I love these boys more than anything in the world, but Mommy needs a BREAK. You feel me?

Sometimes I go nuts and run around like a crazy person trying to get all the things done. Sometimes I collapse on the couch and spend the day watching HGTV only to come out of the haze 30 minutes before everyone comes home frustrated that I “wasted my day”. (Note to self: relaxing all day is NOT a waste of a day.)

Today I decided to take a new approach. Instead of a to-do list, I set some true intentions for myself. Feel free to read my scribbly list in my actual notepad. Here’s how it works.

Start with “Today I will…” and write down 3 things that you are ABSOLUTELY going to do today.

These have to be concrete, simple tasks that you do not waver on. You’re gonna get this shizz done no matter what. Keep it real. Keep it simple.

Next write “Today I would like to…” and write down 3 things that would feel good to get done.

Include a small but measurable goal so you are clear on what you would like to accomplish. Get one of these done. Awesome! Two of them. Dang! You’re good. All three!! You should feel like a champion! Got none of them done. Awesome! Pop them on the list again another day. Remember, this list is optional.

Here’s the real magic.

Write “Today I will not…” and write down 3 things that are out of the question for you.

This list is as serious and unwavering as the first one. This is a great place to keep your mindset in check or write down an action or habit you’re trying to change. You are safeguarding your mind and your heart with this list.

The key to making this work is to make it manageable.

Keep it to 3 items on each list. There’s so much other stuff that is going to come up through out the day.

This isn’t a list to get all hardcore and hypervigilant on. It’s a way to organize your thoughts and intentions for the day.

Write your list and tell me something that made yours today. If you’re feeling frisky, post a photo of your list and tag me in it so I can send you a virtual high five
