In 2009, I had just gone through a breakup when a friend offered to let me visit her in NYC. It was the first time I ever flew alone. I was a little nervous while we were sitting on the tarmac. It was a cloudy drizzly day. The plane shook a little as it gained altitude through the wet clouds. I watched out the window but couldn’t see anything except the blinking light at the end of the wing.
That’s when it happened. We broke through the clouds. Suddenly my field of vision was filled with only beautiful blue sky. I could see the sun high in the late morning sky. That moment felt like a gift. I had a perspective that I could have never seen from the ground.
Life has its ebbs and flows. There will be times when our hearts sing with joy. There will be times that can crush our faith. There will be times where it feels like opening on eyes is pointless when our hearts cry with pain.
If you are there right now, I want you to know that you are not alone. Pain is a reality of life that we will all experience. It is as essential to our lives as rain. Just like the rain storm, it will pass and the sun will shine again. It is inevitable. Behind even the largest and darkest cloud, the sun is patiently shining its light for all of us.
